Eddyville City Council
The Eddyville City Council met in regular session Monday evening. On the agenda was the yearly action items: depository, wages, appointments to Fire Agency and Mahaska County Landfill.
A resolution carried to approve a depository agreement with First Iowa State Bank with a limit of $2,500,000.00.
The budget committee had recommended a 50 cent/hour increase in utility man wages, 75 cent/hour (25 cents/hour for supervising summer time help) increase in street man wages, 50 cent/hour increase in city clerk wages and $10-$12/hour for summer time help. The water board who also pays for the utility man wages had recommended a 30 cent/hour increase. Following length discussion motions carried as follows: 30 cent/hour increase in utility man wages, 75 cents/hour increase in street man wages, 50 cents/hour increase in city clerk wages and to hire up to two part time grounds people for 24 hours/week for 26 weeks at $10-$12/hour depending on qualifications.
Other motions that carried were: appoint Bill Liles to be the city person on the Fire Agency, appoint Doug Greenlee to be the city person on the Mahaska County Landfill commission and approve Lona Kaster as the city of Eddyville member on the library board.
The city received the 2020 library Annual Report.
Mahaska County Sheriff Russ Van Renterghem reported to the council what his department has been doing and Marty Wonderlin, Wapello County Deputy Sheriff, reported on the Wapello County Sheriff department.
A resolution carried to have a Public Hearing on Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. for the Proposed Maximum Property Tax Levy.
Motion carried to approve Dollar General’s Cigarette Permit.
Following discussion, a motion was carried to hire Nate Norton to fill in for a city employee who will be on vacation in February, if needed at $12/hour.
The council went into closed session to discuss the property at 204 S. 6th Street. Returning to open session a motion was carried to have the city attorney review the situation again as a family member has just recently been located.
