English Valleys’ Kennedy Axmear Named to All-District and All-Region Teams

Senior captain of the English Valleys Bears, Kennedy Axmear, was named the Southeast All-District and Region 8 All-Region teams. 

Axmear led the Bears to a 14-9 record averaging a team high 15 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. 

Axmear spoke on all the accomplishments she piled up throughout the season with, “It feels really good because it feels like all my hard work has finally paid off, and I am glad people can see what my accomplishments are.”

In the South Iowa Cedar League conference, Axmear was in the top five in eight of the 17 total statistics: first in free throws made (124), second in blocks (25), third in points (330), third in field goals made (124), third in total rebounds (187), third in field goal percentage (47.9%), third in defensive rebounds (120) and fifth in offensive rebounds (67). All these lead to Axmear being named a unanimous selection to the SICL First Team All-Conference Team.

On top of that, Axmear finished in the top 50 in Class 1A in points, field goals made and defensive rebounds.

“I was definitely going hard in practice. I don’t like to slack off. Every game I just put all my effort into it, explained Axmear on what helped propel her to accumulate all these statistics.

Axmear, as well as fellow senior Delaney Hall, was a captain of the English Valleys girls’ basketball team for the past two years. She spoke on being a leader for this team with, “Delaney (Hall) has been my best friend since we were very little, so we have always had that connection, and helping the younger kids learn is something both of us really strive for. Being a good role model to them was also another goal of ours.”

Lastly, Axmear described her favorite memories from the season as, “We have been able to laugh and have fun with each other every day. We will be serious at practice and work together, but then it is fun at practice because we are doing so many good things together.”
