Franklin Wayne Morris

1948 - 2023

Franklin Wayne Morris, age 74, of Keota, died Friday, August 18, 2023, the result of an automobile accident.

Frank was born September 15, 1948, in Oskaloosa, to Deane and Maxine Morris and graduated from Keota High School.  He served in the Army National Guard for 38 years and was deployed to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm.  Frank farmed and worked as a custodian at the University of Iowa for many years, retiring in 2021.  Frank was a humble, faith-filled man who always had a story to share.  He never met a stranger, and always ran into someone he knew wherever he went. He enjoyed time spent with family, friends and especially seeing his grandkids.  His time in the National Guard held a special place in his heart.  He made so many lifelong friends while serving, who became extended family.  His other favorites included his time at County Line Mart, attending driveway meetings, helping others, and writing poems for special occasions and special people.

Survivors include three children: Rachel (Daryl) Witt of Milo, John Morris of South English and Erica (Tony) Altenhofen of North Liberty; five grandchildren: Emma Witt, Owen Morris, Jake Morris, Samantha Altenhofen and Charlotte Altenhofen; two brothers: Jim (Mary Alice) Morris and Tom Morris and sister: Mary Sue (Al) Arneson.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Judith in infancy; sister: Beth Andrews and brother-in-law: Tom Andrews.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 31, at the National Guard Armory in Washington, with Bob Morris officiating.  Burial will be at Keota Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be given to Frank’s interests.  Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Frank and his family.  Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
