Gary William Mikesell

Gary William Mikesell was born November 3, 1947, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Dale and Josephine (Wheeler) Mikesell.  He graduated from English Valley High School in 1966.  Gary was united in marriage to Martha (Marty) O’Rourke on April 8, 1972, at Our Lady of the Lord’s Catholic Church in Keswick.  He has been a lifelong farmer.   Gary served as a trustee for the North Keokuk County Fire Department for a number of years. Gary enjoyed going to his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, Sudoku, going to his coffee groups and driving around going to auctions.  Gary passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at the English Valley Care Center in North English at the age of 76 years. 

Gary is survived by his wife Martha (Marty) of Webster; four children, Clinton (Tracy) Mikesell of Webster, Marshall Mikesell of Chelsea, AL, Elliot (Sharon) Mikesell of Williamsburg and Amanda Mikesell of Phoenix, AZ; 12 grandchildren, Brayden Mikesell, Madison Mikesell, Taylor Mikesell, Colton Mikesell, Evelyn Mikesell, Eleanor Mikesell, Joselyn Mikesell, Rowan Mikesell, Cameron (Erin) Bradshaw, Cole Bradshaw, Gracie Bradshaw and Griffin Rutledge and a sister, Nancy (Charles) Walker of Carlsbad, CA.  He is preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Bonnie and Kenny Watson and a daughter-in-law Lori Ann Mikesell.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sigourney.  Burial will be at Sorden Cemetery, rural Webster.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in North English.   A general memorial has been established.  Messages and tributes may be directed to www.powellfuneralhomes.com
