Gorsh finishes fourth at Colfax-Mingo regional

COLFAX – After taking some time off to heal, she nearly extended her season to the State tournament.
English Valleys wrestler Anna Gorsh ultimately finished fourth at the Colfax-Mingo class 1A regional tournament on Friday night. She was within a few positions of making it to the State tournament.
Gorsh wrestled in the 120-pound weight class and started off the tournament well.
In the quarterfinals Gorsh needed just 53 seconds to pin a Ballard opponent.
In the semifinals Gorsh was paired with Shyla VanNevel of BGM. The two SICL wrestlers battled each other until the end of the match. VanNevel was able to gain the win 9-8.
That sent Gorsh to the consolation semifinals. There she needed just 40 seconds to pin her Iowa Falls-Alden opponent.
In the third place match Gorsh was paired with a Woodward-Granger opponent. However the match ended with a pin in 20 seconds and Gorsh’s season ended with a 26-8 overall record.
Emily Sieren wrestled at 100 pounds, but was defeated in both her matches. Sieren ends the season with an 18-15 record.
Lyla Smothers wrestled at 125 pounds. She was defeated in both of her matches by pins. Smothers had a record of 10-23 this year.
Christy Knapp wrestled at 135 pounds. She won her first match by pinning a Grinnell opponent in 29 seconds. After being pinned by a Woodward-Granger opponent, Knapp won her first consolation round match with a 15-14 decision.
Her tournament came to a close after a second period pin in the consolation semifinals. Knapp had a 7-14 record this year.
Peyten Conrad was defeated in both of her 140-pound matches. She stood at 1-10 on the season.
Taylor Mikesell wrestled at 170 pounds. Mikesell won her first match with a pin in 1:36.
In the quarterfinals Mikesell was just short in a 3-1 decision.
In the consolation bracket Mikesell was pinned in the first period. Her season ends with a 15-20 overall record.
