Gorsh leads English Valleys at Highland tournament
HIGHLAND – Anna Gorsh led her team at the Highland wrestling tournament this weekend.
Gorsh, along with the rest of the English Valleys girls wrestling team traveled to the Highland wrestling tournament. Gorsh wrestled in the 120-pound division and placed third overall.
Gorsh started her tournament with a pin in just 17 seconds in the first round.
She would need just 61 seconds to gain a win in the quarterfinal round.
In the semifinal match Gorsh battled Lilli Cooper from Denver, but was pinned late in the first period.
In the third place match Gorsh took on a Wilton wrestler and would pin her late in the second period to place third overall.
Teammate Emily Sieren would place fifth in the 100-pound bracket.
Sieren recovered from a first round pin, and was able to pin a wrestler from Columbus in the consolation semifinals. She needed just 1:03 to earn the pin.
In the fifth place match Sieren was able to pin a Tri-County opponent in 44 seconds to place fifth.
Also wrestling for the Bears at the tournament were Lyla Smothers (125-pounds); Christy Knapp (135-pounds); Olivia Debevec (140-pounds) and Taylor Mikesell (170-pounds).
