Grant Ranch opens in Sigourney
SIGOURNEY - “I am a third generation bar and grill owner.” stated Danette Meyer, owner of Grant Ranch Grub & Pub that opened on Dec. 1, 2020 on the southeast corner of Sigourney's historic town square. The new Sigourney restaurant is the fourth Grant Ranch location.
Danette is the first born grandchild of Duane and Mary Grant who opened the first two Grant Ranch locations in Marengo in the 1960's. They later opened the third Grant Ranch in Keswick in the 1980's. When the Grants retired a number of years later, so did the Grant Ranch name.
Danette's mother and the Grants' only daughter, Sherry Fisher, continued the family tradition when she opened the Copper Lantern on the northeast corner of the Sigourney square in 2003. Ms. Fisher ran the Copper Lantern for sixteen years before retiring a few years ago. Danette worked with her mother throughout that time. Her further experience includes working for her cousin, Amanda Snakenberg, owner of Barn Wired and at Pigtail Charlie's Diner in Hedrick.
Now, in 2020, Danette decided it was time for her own venture and has resurrected the name with the opening of the Grant Ranch Grub & Pub on the east side of the Sigourney Square. Since Sept. 21 an army of family has worked together to help Danette extensively remodel the interior of the site. From the impressive custom bar that dominates the rear half of the main dining space, to barn wood wall accents and sliding barn doors, accent lighting, and new chairs, stools and tables, the interior will not disappoint.
Once on display at the Dumont Museum, the life size photo of John Wayne lends itself to a great photo opportunity. The stained glass window on the south wall has been restored. The original sign from the first Grant Ranch (misspellings and all) hangs along the north wall.
A few years back the “Cruiser Mural”, which had graced the east wall of the service area since the Cruiser Lounge era many years ago, was painted over by a former tenant and could not be restored. Elizabeth Wade, former owner of the Cruiser Lounge, said "Such a shame to paint over it. I was owner of cruiser lounge and a high school student painted that for us from a pic of our ‘59 ford retractable.” In it's place you will find a new, 3-D mural created by Sherry Fisher. The remarkable mural brings a new look to the wall and is as representative of the surrounding rural area as it is the Grant Ranch's roots.
The menu at Grant Ranch Grub & Pub includes a considerable selection of gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches such as Jalapeno 'N Bacon and Shrimp 'N Bacon grilled cheese. Choose either a 1/3 pound hamburger patty or a 6 ounce grilled chicken breast then select your choice of specialty toppings such as Black 'N Bleu, The Barn Yard, Philly, Mushroom and more. The menu also offers a nice selection of appetizers, salads, fish and shrimp, and sides to choose from.
Danette asks everyone to please remember “with the current pandemic regulations seating is at 50% capacity and groups are limited to six people, eight people from the same household.” She also notes the staff will have their temperatures monitored every shift, cleaning and sanitizing procedures are in place, and air purifiers are used.
Grant Ranch is now open on the square for dine in, carry out, curb side takeout and limited delivery hours (within the City). Please see Grant Ranch Grub & Pub's Facebook page to review their menu. Customers may call 641-622-6161 to place an order.
