Jean Cavin

1931-2020

Jean Yvonne Cavin, 88, died Dec. 4, 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.  She was born Dec. 25, 1931 to Ray and Laurella Marie (Van Auken) Cassens in Sigourney.  She graduated from Sigourney High School in 1949.  On Sept. 4, 1950 she married James Cavin at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney.  Together they lived and farmed southeast of Sigourney all their life and moved into Sigourney in 2000.  Jean was very active in Keokuk County 4-H, Keokuk County Expo, Keokuk County Historical Society, and served on the hospital board.  She was a member of the Sigourney Red Hat Society, St. Mary Catholic Church, and Altar and Rosary Society.  Jean was active in her children’s school activities and volunteered in many community events. She made numerous quilts and enjoyed quilting with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Cavin, and brother Lee Cassens.

Those left to mourn her passing are children Mark (Diane) Cavin of Sigourney, Amy (Jeff) Conklin of Iowa City, Dale (Lori) Cavin of Solon, David (Therese) Cavin of Cedar Rapids, 12 grandchildren Jess, Ann, Cassie, Skyler, Lucas, Andrea, Philip, Lynette, Erica, Paul, Maria , and Thomas, and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. Memorials and cards may be sent to Mark Cavin 24271 260th Ave. Sigourney, Iowa 52591. A private family service was held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Arrangements by the Holm Funeral Home.
