Sigourney – Jessie J. Phillips, age 90, died Wednesday May 25, 2023, at English Valley Care Center in North English. Jessie was born September 22, 1932, in Ollie, IA, to Lawrence Effner and Pearl Carter. She grew up in the Ollie area and attended school in Ollie. On April 14, 1950, she married William “Bill” Phillips in Fremont. Jessie raised her family in the Kinross area and worked at Amana for many years before retiring. In her retirement years she moved to Arkansas with her daughter Pam and lived there 10 years. She made many friendships before moving back to Iowa in 2017.

She enjoyed working outside, especially mowing. She loved Blue Grass and Old Country music, dancing, and could sing off key with the best of them. She best loved family and friends and was always one to help anyone in need.

Survivors include three sons: Ron (Corby) Phillips of Keota, Tony (Shirley) Phillips of Sigourney, and Bud (Lou) Phillips of Kinross and one daughter Billie (Bill) Myers of Harper; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; two sisters Cathy Harding of Ottumwa, and Dorothey (Dotty) Polto of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Bill; daughter: Pam Walker; grandson: Scott Walker; two sisters: Gertrude Abel and Betty Reynolds; and three brothers: Harry Doyle Carter, Phillip Wade Carter, and Lawrence (Wimp) Carter.

Per her wishes Jessie was cremated and her remains will be buried beside her husband in the Ollie cemetery at a later date. There will be a Celebration of Life at the South English Fire Station on June 17, 2023, from 11-2. Memorials may be donated to the Essence of Life Hospice.
