SIGOURNEY - The Keokuk County Community Endowment Foundation (KCCEF) awarded
Sigourney Ball a $25,000 grant to improve the ball field areas in the west end of Sigourney's
Legion Park with concrete stairs. Sigourney Ball, Inc. is an all-volunteer organization that
coordinates youth baseball and softball for hundreds of kids each year and has been working
towards being able to make the improvements for a number of years.
Sigourney Ball, Inc.'s $25,000.00 Major Award grant proposal was unanimously approved by the
Keokuk County Community Endowment Foundation Advisory Board. “Our Board members saw
this as an improvement opportunity that will benefit people of all ages and the outcome would
have a tremendous impact on the community for generations to come. We are honored to partner
with Sigourney Ball to make this project happen,” stated Connie McLaughlin, KCCEF Board
Member.
Ms. McLaughlin further explained the role of KCCEF by saying, “As a community foundation, we
have two primary roles: acting as a strategic grant maker in our county and helping donors give
back to the causes and organization they care about. Through our annual grant process, we are
able to work closely with local nonprofits to provide funds that address the needs of the county.”
The City of Sigourney partnered with Sigourney Ball for the grant application. At the Oct. 12, 2020
Sigourney City Council meeting, Sigourney Ball representative Adam Clark described how the
$25,000 grant would be used for concrete work and stairs in the baseball/softball field area of the
park. An additional $10,000 approved by the City Council at that meeting will contribute greatly to
the additional planned upgrades to the concession stand and bathrooms.
