Lady Panthers split final week of regular season

Pekin finished their final week of the season winning two of their final four games. They beat Montezuma twice and falling in two close games to Louisa-Muscatine and Cardinal and outscored their opponents 32-18. 

The Lady Panthers kicked off their final week by hosting Montezuma for a doubleheader on July 1. They got a strong start in game one, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning and shut out the Bravettes through three innings. Montezuma rallied and cut the deficit down to two runs and Pekin responded with four more runs in the sixth inning to win 9-3.

Ellie Ledger and Faith Goudy had two RBIs apiece, with Zoey Wright, Emi Zook and Erika Coleman also batted in one run. Emilee Linder, Wright, Zook and Goudy led the team with two hits apiece and Goudy picked up the win on the mound. She pitched six innings, allowed six hits, walked one and struck out five. Cari Duwa pitched the final inning and walked one, while not allowing any hits.

Pekin kept rolling in game two, scoring 16 runs in the first couple innings after giving up one run. Zook led the way with three more RBIs coming from a three-run dinger. Sami Greiner batted two other runs in, and Wright, Coleman and Kylie Davis drove in one run each. Davis also pitched all three innings of two-hit ball, allowed one run, walked two and struck out three.
