Larry Striegel, 84

Larry Striegel, age 84, of Harper, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Lone Tree Healthcare Center.

Larry was born September 2, 1939, in Harper, to Delbert and Alma (Bombei) Striegel and received his education at St. Elizabeth Catholic School.  He served in the Army National Guard  in Washington from 1960 until 1966.  On January 30, 1965, he married Sandra Knepp at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Harper.  The couple lived and farmed in the Harper area, retiring in 2008.  Larry was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, served as director of the Soil Conservation Service and was a 3rd and 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight for several years.

Survivors include his wife: Sandy of Harper; three children: Dan (Laura) Striegel of Riverside, Diana (Jeff) Wilcox of Cedar Rapids and Dean (Shellie) Striegel of West Branch; seven grandchildren: Brandon Striegel, Tyler Striegel, Jesse (Amy) Wilcox, Anna (Patrick) Myers, Sydney Striegel, Brett Striegel and Evan Striegel; four great grandchildren; five brothers: Kenneth (Deb) Striegel of Ollie, Leo (Jacque) Striegel of Harper, Dennis (Jeannie) Striegel of Harper, LeRoy (Deb) Striegel of Carlisle and Raymond (Ginny) Striegel of Indianola and five sisters: Joyce Webster of Decatur, Texas, Francene (Lou) Lorenzo of Williamsburg, Jeanette (Dick) Peirce of Williamsburg, Sharon (Ed) Banks of Garden Grove and Jane (Sam) Mendenhall of Garden Grove.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Danny in infancy and Edward.

 

Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota.  Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Harper.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2023, at the church.

A memorial fund has been established for the Memory Unit at Lone Tree Healthcare Center or Heartland Hospice.  Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Larry and his family.  Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
