Local Students Nominated for All-State Speech

CEDAR RAPIDS – Local schools competed at the Large Group Speech State Competition held at Cedar Rapids Washington on Feb. 8. At the state contest, students are scored by three judges. Groups that receive a I rating as well as a recommendation from at least two judges may be allowed to perform at the All-State Speech Competition held at Iowa State on Feb. 22. Three local acts received All-State nominations, although none of them will chosen to perform at the showcase.

The acts that received nominations include:

Keota

“Trailer Park Broadcasting” (One Act Play, starring Ava Greiner, Kimberly Clarahan, Lainey Swanson, Issi Chalupa, Jayla Redlinger, Grace Conger): three Is.

“Anna and August” (Reader’s Theater, starring Gavin Sieren, Ava Greiner, Jake Morris, Jackson Vittetoe, Luke Moeller, Brynn Conrad Lainey Swanson and Chase Haifley)

Tri-County

“Mick Harte Was Here” (Reader’s Theater, starring Alyssa Hadsell, Nazareth Davis, Drayvon Dennis, Grace Lindley and Imara Colbert): two Is, one II.

“Crazy Hand of Poker” (Choral Reading, starring Isaac Striegel, Jackson Vittetoe, Owen Morris, Jake Morris, Chase Haifley, Gavin Sieren, Luke Moeller, Kennedy Jackson, Emily Conger, Grace Conger, Kimmy Clarahan, Elyse Lyle, Olivia Lyle and Will Klein): one I, two IIs.

“The Golden Apple” (Choral Reading, starring Aaliyah Cooper, Ayla Hall, Raegan Molyneux, Jayden Smith, Michael VerPloeg,  Nathan McDonald, Emery Hall and Aubrey Zittergruen): three ones.

“The Monster Under the Bed” (starring and written by Aubrey Zittergruen, Aaliyah Cooper, Emery Hall, Ayla Hall and Reagan Molyneux): two Is, one II.

The Tri-County Improv Team (Group Improv, featuring Michael Verploeg, Nathan McDonald, Drayvon Dennis, Kevin Smith and Jayden Smith): two Is, one II.

“On Safari” (Solo Mime, starring Alya Banes): two Is, one II.
