ENGLISH VALLEYS GIRLS TOP KEOTA ON SENIOR NIGHT:

NORTH ENGLISH—The English Valleys Bears hosted the Keota Eagles on January 31 for a South Iowa Cedar league matchup. The Bears snuck past the Eagles by a final score of 47-46.

Before the game, the English Valleys Bears celebrated the careers of seniors Mackinze Dietze and Addy Westfall.

The Bears came out strong in the first quarter as their defense held the Eagles to a scoreless first, while putting up 19 points offensively. The Eagles pushed back in the second and third by out-scoring the Bears 26-22 in those two quarters to cut the Bears lead down to 41-26. In the fourth, the Eagles went on a 20-6 run, but it was not enough to surmount a comeback.

The Bears advance to 13-7 on the season, with a conference record of 9-6. They will return to action on February 7, when they visit the Columbus Wildcats.

The Eagles advance to 7-13 on the season, with a conference record of 6-9. They will return to action on February 3,when they visit the Cardinal Comets.

 

PEKIN FALLS TO LOUISA-MUSCATINE AT HOME:

PACKWOOD—The Pekin Panthers hosted the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons on January 31 for a Southeast Iowa Super Conference-North matchup. The Panthers fell to the Falcons by a final score of 40-21.

The Panthers found themselves in a 20-5 deficit after a half of play. The Falcons kept up the momentum by out-scoring the Panthers 20-16 in the second half en route to the 40-21 victory. 

The Panthers fall to 3-17 on the season, with a conference record of 3-13. They will return to action on February 11 for the first round of the Class 2A-Region 6 Substate bracket, where they visit the Durant Wildcats.
