No. 4 Sigourney-Keota has a team effort victory in win over Mediapolis Bulldogs

With the last two matchups between the Cobras and Bulldogs with results favoring the Bulldogs (28-6 and 41-33 in 2018 and 2017 respectively), Sigourney-Keota would be looking for a statement win against Mediapolis.

The Cobras (6-0, 4-0) won the toss and elected to defer for the second half, their kick to Mediapolis was returned for 30 yards.

The Bulldog drive would stall, and they would punt away to the Cobra eight-yard line.

Sam Sieren would break off a 92-yard rush and the Cobras, much like their counterpart in nature, struck fast with 9:55 left in the first quarter.

After both teams exchanged some punts, Mediapolis got on the scoreboard with a 55-yard rush with 2:27 remaining in the first.

Defense would be the story for most of the second quarter, that is of course, until Sam Sieren scored from six yards out to make it it 14-7 with 3:41 left in the half.

“Offense, defense, special teams you win all three aspects of that in the game, every single quarter, you’re going to be in good shape,
and I feel like we did that,” Coach Jensen said.

Mediapolis’s next drive would be halted by an interception and then Sigourney-Keota’s ensuing drive would also be halted by an aerial turnover.

Mediapolis’s second half kick sailed into the endzone for a touchback, which meant the Cobras set up shop on their own 20.
Shortly thereafter, Sam Sieren had a 29-yard gain on the ground. A 40-yard field goal by the Cobras would split the uprights and the Cobras went up 17-7 with 6:50 left in the third quarter.

The following Bulldog drive featured a very long pass completion to a Mediapolis receiver, who ran it almost all the way for a score before Brady Duwa ripped it out and recovered in the endzone for a touchback. This sparked Sigourney-Keota’s Cade Molyneux to get a rushing touchdown of his own
with 1:01 left in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs had a quick bite with a 55-yard pass play with 9:59 left in the fourth to make the score
24-14.

“Those guys (Mediapolis) work hard in the off season,” Brady Duwa said. “They make great halftime adjustments and they know who their skill guys are.”

Cade Molyneux had another rushing touchdown with 2:56 left to put the Cobras in command, 31-14.

Next up, the Cobras take on the Cardinal Comets who beat Van Buren County last week 74-0 with Maddux Jones back in the lineup for the first time since August.

“This was the test, we had a little redemption tonight.” Coach Jensen said.
