OSKALOOSA – First responders were called to Edmundson Pond about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday for a vehicle in the middle of the water. Just before 1 p.m. rescue crews were able to pull the car from the pond.

Details are sketchy, but park workers saw the car come off South H Street at the north end of the pond. When this reporter arrived, the gold-colored car went below the surface of the water. Emergency personnel from Oskaloosa Fire Department, Oskaloosa Police Department, Mahaska Ambulance, Mahaska County Sheriff’s Department, Mahaska County Emergency Management, Iowa State Patrol and the Marion County Dive Team.

When the call came into the 911 center, there was a downpour and winds gusting above 10 mile an hour. Mahaska water rescue personnel immediately worked to put a boat in the water to try to locate the vehicle after it submerged. It was finally located about an hour after the call came in. Name of the driver had not been released as of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday and the death of the driver has not been confirmed.
