CORALVILLE - The Panthers clawed their way through the State wrestling tournament this last weekend.

Hailey Pedrick entered the 140-pound division as the ninth-seeded wrestler and she would finish with a 1-2 overall record.

Pedrick started her day with a match against a Logan-Magnolia-Woodbine wrestler. Pedrick was able to hold off the attacks of her opponent throughout the first period, but in the second period she was pinned just 44 seconds into the period.

In the consolation round Pedrick went on the attack again. This time she  battled Josie Dean of Columbus Catholic.

Pedrick’s attack seemed to overwhelm Dean as Pedrick was in control throughout the first minute.

Dean was able to fight to a neutral position, but Pedrick quickly wrangled her up and would earn the pin in 1:22 to advance in the tournament.

In the next round Pedrick battled a Clarinda opponent.

Throughout the first period Clarinda’s Lily Weinreich went on the attack gathering two three point takedowns and a four point nearfall. Pedrick had two escapes.

The second period started with Pedrick getting a hold on Weinreich, but a reversal soon gave Weinreich two points and momentum.

From there Pedrick was pinned with just six seconds left in the second period.

Pedrick finished her junior season with a 37-5 overall record.

Lila Miller also ended her junior season at the State wrestling tournament. In the first round Miller took on Decorah’s Amelia Wadsworth.

The two 135-pound wrestlers put on a good battle throughout much of the match. Miller wasn’t able to get much offense going though as she was defeated by tech fall 20-2 midway   through the third period.

In the fist consolation match Miller faced off with a Woodward-Granger opponent. Miller started off with plenty of offense, but was pinned in 1:38.

Miller’s season ended with a 28-6 overall record.

Freshman Rylee Frye wrestled in the 235-pound bracket. In the first  round Frye (seeded 14th) took on third-seeded Emma Cook. Cook would pin Frye in 1:37.

That sent Frye to the consolation bracket. In the first consolation match Frye was pinned in 27 seconds, ending her season.

Overall Frye finished with a 22-23 record this year.
