Pekin Places First, English Valleys Finishes Fourth in Jane Astor Relays

TIFFIN—On April 5, the English Valleys and Pekin girls track teams made the trip to Tiffin for the Jane Astor Relays. 

The Panthers took home first place in the B division with an aggregate score of 168, while English Valleys finished fourth in the same division with a total score of 92.

For the Panthers relay teams, they finished first or second place in four different events. They took home the gold in the 4x800 meter relay, the distance relay and 4x400 meter relay.

Their one second place finish was in the 400 meter shuttle hurdles. 

For individuals, the Panthers had eight athletes with top three finishes in their respective events.

Three athletes took home the gold: Kayse Miller in the high jump, Anna Hadley in the shot put event and Chloe Glosser in the 1500 meter run. Hadley finished with a longest shot put throw record at 39 '10” ½, which is close to the 41' 0” mark needed to qualify for the Drake Relays in the event.

Brinley Phillips took home second place in the long jump event, while also placing fifth in the 400 meter hurdles. 

Anna Hadley took home second place in the discus event. Hadley has already secured her spot in the Drake Relays for the event with a PR of 140.09.

In the 800 meter run, Audrey Faris took home second place with a time of 2:41.56.

The Panthers also had two athletes finish in their place in their events: Lauren Steigleder in the 3000 meter run and Myah Bainbridge in the 100 meter dash.

For the English Valleys team events, the Bears finished in second place in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 55.20.

The Bears also secured third place finishes in the distance relay and the 4x200 meter relay.

Lastly, the Bears finished in fourth place in the sprint medley with a time of 2:04.56.

For individuals, Kennedy Axmear secured her spot back at the Drake Relays with a first place finish in the discus event. She recorded a longest throw of 138 '0".

In the 800 meter race, Aubrey Achenbach took home fourth place with a final time of 2:46.47.

The Pekin girls and track team will return to action on April 11, when they host the Jerry Horton Panther Relays.

The English Valleys girls track will return to action on April 8, when they head to Iowa Valley.
