Pekin Teaches Kids About Dangers of Drunk Driving

PACKWOOD – Presentations on the importance of safe driving were given to Pekin Elementary, Middle School, and High School students on April 19, with Andy Nelson of Safe Driving Solutions, Sarah Magnis and Cassie Riegel of Jefferson County Ambulance, School Resource Officer and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Angie Pohren, Brandon Petrehn of Hedrick Fire and Jason Marlow of Iowa State Patrol each giving speeches about the importance of safe driving. The speakers told personal stories about young people they knew who had died in car crashes and fatal accidents they had responded to. The speakers stressed the importance of wearing seatbelts, not being distracted, not drinking and driving, not speeding, not driving while drowsy and stressed how impactful car accidents can be for family members and the community.
