LYNNVILLE – Their final stand was almost enough to complete the comeback.

Although the game was close throughout Sigourney still had some room to make up in the final quarter of Friday’s contest against Lynnville-Sully.

Although the Savages were able to chip away at the Hawk lead, Lynnville-Sully proved to be too much in a 55-53 victory.

Neither team was able to generate much space against each other in the game on Friday night. The Hawks carved out a 15-12 lead after the first quarter.

Sigourney continued to battle back, but both teams were hindered by the defense of the other team in the second quarter. Sigourney had only 10 points in the second quarter while Lynnville-Sully would score 13, to increase their lead 28-22 at halftime.

Both offenses were able to have more success in the third quarter.

Sigourney would have their best point-scoring quarter of the game, to that point, in the third as they scored 15 points. Lynnville-Sully only increased their lead with a 17-point effort.

The Savages entered the final quarter trailing by eight, and they seemed to be able to make up most of the deficit early on.

The Savages would outscore the Hawks 16-10 in the final frame, but the Savages still came up just two points shy of the victory, falling 55-53.

For the Savages it was their second-straight narrow defeat against an SICL team.

Isaac Bruns led the Savages with 14 points scored. He also added seven rebounds, one steal and a block.

Brayden Wood would finish with 13 points and three rebounds. Ike Molyneux had 11 points with five assists. John Berg added six points. Landon Conrad finished with five points. Solon Yates would score four points.

The Savages move to 4-3 overall on the season.

This week Sigourney was on the road Tuesday night against North Mahaska (7-1). They return home Friday and Saturday as they host BGM (2-7) and Pekin (5-3).
