NORTH ENGLISH - Once they were able to get the lead, there was no turning back.

In both of their games last week Sigourney was able to pull away from the competition early in the first half to help them secure the ultimate win.

On Dec. 10 the Savages were able to defeat Belle Plaine 56-35. In that game the Savages were able to use a 28-point first half to fuel their ultimate win.

Belle Plaine kept things close in the first half. After the first quarter the Savages held a seven point advantage. Belle Plaine scored 10 points in the second quarter.

The difference came in the third quarter when Sigourney scored 19 points and limited the Plainsmen to just eight. That third quarter run helped the Savages secure the ultimate win over Belle Plaine, and the first win of the season for Sigourney.

Junior Solon Yates was able to secure the most points scored for the Savages in the victory. He scored 22 points, while also added four rebounds and one steal in the win.

Isaac Bruns was able to add 13 points in the win. He ad three rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block.

John Berg finished with 10 points. He added a double-double with 11 rebounds. He also had an assist.

Brayden Wood scored five points. Ike Molyneux finished with four points. Landon Conrad would add two more points.

The Savages were back on the road Friday night as they made the short trip to battle English Valleys.

Early on the defense of English Valleys was very determined to not let the Savages get inside the lane for easy shots. Instead of shying away from that challenge the Savages took on the challenge and continued to push the ball inside.

While the score was close for the first few minutes of the contest the persistent challenges inside the lane by Sigourney opened up more and more shots.

By the end of the first quarter the Savages led 19-7.

Then the shots seemed to disappear from Sigourney throughout the second quarter. English Vallays stood strong and didn’t allow the Savages to have as much presence as they wanted inside the lane.

The longer outside shots failed to connect and English Valleys gladly took all of the turnovers that the Savages committed.

While the Bears seemed to feed on the fortune of the Savages, they weren’t able to close in on the score. Another seven point quarter by the Bears featured Sigourney leading 25-14 at halftime.

In the third quarter Sigourney was able to rediscover their shots. Long range shots that had hit off the front of the rim, easily danced through the net. The Savages once again were able to fight their way into the lane for easy layups, the lead started to expand.

English Valleys kept the game honest with their own variety of shots, but the pace of the Sigourney shots seemed to undo any rhythm that the Bears were able to establish.

The Savages scored 27-points in the third quarter, setting an early season high mark for themselves. That allowed them to easily cruise to a 63-38 victory over the Bears.

Senior Isaac Bruns pulled away with the leading scoring mark for the Savages. He had 22 points on Friday night.

Ike Molyneux added 11 points. Solon Yates and John Berg both scored 10 points in the win on Friday. Brayden Wood added five points. Carson O’Rourke and Hunter Sellers both had two points. Landon Conrad added one point.

Everett Bender led the Bears with 13 points. Christian Tripses was able to add 12 points.

Kane Axmear finished with six points. Ben Axmear finished with four points. Tyler Lortz was able to add three points.

The Savages will stand at 2-1 on the season.

English Valleys falls to 0-5 this year.
