Sieren, Gorsh both place third at Mid-Prairie wrestling meet

WELLMAN - Two English Valleys wrestlers both stacked up the wins over the weekend. 

At a Friday wrestling tournament hosted by Mid-Prairie the English Valleys girls wrestling team brought home a pair of bronze medals. 

Emily Sieren who wrestled in the 100-pound bracket and Anna Gorsh, wrestling in the 125-pound bracket both finished third overall. 

Sieren won her first match with a pin in 38 seconds. 

In the semifinals Sieren was pinned in the first period by a Maquoketa opponent. Sieren would win the consolation semifinal match with a win by second period pin. 

In the third place match Sieren needed just 1:24 to pin her Mediapolis opponent to take home the bronze medal. 

Gorsh had a similar path to the bronze medal. 

Gorsh won her quarterfinal match by pinning a Western Dubuque opponent in the second period. 

After being pinned in the third period of the semifinals, Gorsh would pin her Fort Madison opponent in the first period to take home third overall. 

Taylor Mikesell was able to finish sixth overall. The 170-pound wrestler finished the tournament 1-3. 

After being pinned in the quarterfinal round, Mikesell was able to get a bye in the consolation bracket. 

From there Mikesell was pinned late in the second period by a Fort Madison opponent. In the fifth place match Mikesell was pinned in the first period.
