SIGOURNEY – During the Jan. 3 meeting of the Sigourney City Council, Public Works Director Don Northup reported that the city’s Christmas decorations have suffered wear and tear, with some decorations being held together with zip ties and duct tape. He noted that the large candle and Santa, which are not owned by the city but are partially maintained by the city, are especially in need of repairs. However, the nearest location that can repair the Santa is in Atlanta.

City Clerk Angie Alderson that the upgrade to the city’s gWorks Frontdesk billing software, approved at the previous meeting, will require the city to purchase an additional $96 citizen request feature to get the 100 new users. This new feature will allow citizens to report problems, like potholes or non-functioning street lights, to the city online. Code enforcer Doug Glandon gave the council a year end report, which stated that he had responded to 195 issues in 2023 and cleaned 5 properties.
