Sigourney falls to North Mahaska in gold bracket
BELLE PLAINE – Exactly what they feared came true.
After winning their South Iowa Cedar League volleyball conference match opener on OCt. 14, the Savages were weary of what might await them in the gold bracket on Oct. 17.
The fear was they were going to draw North Mahaska in the first round. They did, and ended up falling to them in a pair of close sets.
Both teams battled throughout the first set eventually North Mahaska was able to gain the 25-19 win.
The second set would be closer, but again the Hawks from North Mahaska flew past Sigourney with a 25-21 victory.
Josephine Moore led the Savages with eight kills. Reagan Clarahan added four more. McKinley Chittick finished with three and Bailey Gretter had two. Gabi Dehne and Addy Fineran both had one kill each.
Taylor Rozenboom had nine assists. Gretter added eight assists and Dani Aller finished with one.
Clarahan led the team with two blocks.
Aller finished with a team-high 13 digs.
Gretter and Fineran both had one each. Gretter and Moore both finished with 12 digs each. Chittick had eight digs. Hannah Hanselman finished with five digs. Rozenboom added three. Clarahan had the only two aces in the match.
North Mahaska went on to defeat HLV for the SICL Conference championship.
