Sigourney’s Chittick and Fisch Lead Savages Past Panthers

PACKWOOD—On January 6, the Pekin Panthers hosted the Sigourney Savages for a non-conference matchup. The Savages stormed past the Panthers by a final score of 49-28.

Junior McKinley Chittick started the game red hot, as she knocked down three triples as the Savages stormed out to a 19-9 lead.

They did not look back from there, as they went on to out-score the Panthers 30-19 en route to the victory.

Chittick led the Savages with 13 total points, which was a season high for her. Sophomore Ava Fisch sank four triples as she dropped 12 points.

Chittick described her game plan coming into the game as, “For me it is shooting when open, don’t force anything, and use your follow through and rotation.”

Sophomore Ava Fisch spoke on how Head Coach Schay Moore kept encouraging her to shoot the ball, despite her struggling early in the game. “At first my shots were not falling, and Schay (Moore) kept telling us to keep our heads up,” explained Fisch.

Coach Moore spoke on the nights from Chittick and Fisch with, “I thought McKinley came in and did a really good job. Ava did not shoot well in the first half, but I told her to keep shooting. She is a good shooter, so there nights where it won’t fall. So, I am glad that she stuck with it, and in the second half she got them to fall.”

Senior Carly Goodwin filled out the stat sheet, as she finished her night with 10 points, seven assists, six rebounds and two steals.

After the game, Coach Moore spoke of her team getting back to back victories after the break as, “Going into break, we knew it was going to be a tough three games. (@ Montezuma, home against Lynnville-Sully and @ North Mahaska) I talked to the girls a lot and we have goals for these final 12 games. We know they are all winnable. We know there will be some tough games, but they are winnable. We have to go out and do the little things.”

The Savages push to 8-4 on the season, with a conference record of 4-4. They will return to action on January 9, when they visit the Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks.
