SK bites EBF in regular season finale
SIGOURNEY - It is hard to imagine a first half going any better.
At the end of the first half the Cobras had put up head-turning numbers. They had been able to run 11 offensive plays, seven of which went for a touchdown.
It was a very overpowering night offensively for the Cobras on Oct. 18 as they concluded their regular season with an overpowering 79-6 win over Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
“We kind of just expect big things to happen when you hand the ball off to Isaac (Bruns),” said Sigourney-Keota head football coach Jared Jensen. “Then the first play of the game we gave him the ball and he get the edge and scores off a 70-yard play. Just to start fast, that gets the energy going and lets us get that extra boost.”
The extra boost seemed to carry throughout the whole game for the Cobras as they just seemed to add to their score as the first half continued on.
The next score was three minutes later when quarterback Brayden Wood connected with Brady Clark on a 76-yard touchdown pass. The next time the Cobra offense had the ball Wood threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Caden Clarahan. After an EBF fumble was recovered by the Cobras they Bruns scored for the second time in the night off a 19 yard run.
That’s four touchdowns in six offensive plays for the Cobras.
“Just being able to mix things up from how we run the ball, it really keeps defense on their toes,” Jensen said. “The defense just doesn’t know where the ball is going to go, and we are just executing the plays very well no matter where we are trying to go. When teams can’t just focus on stopping one thing that is in our favor.”
By the end of the first half the Cobras had amassed a 60-6 lead over EBF.
Sigourney-Keota would score three more touchdowns in the second half to cap off the game with an eventual blowout, 79-6 win. In the contest the Cobras had 189 yards passing and 478 yards rushing.
The defense was stout as well, giving up just 95 yards of total offense to the Rockets. In the game EBF finished with just three drives that did not result in a three and out.
With the victory the Cobras move to 7-1 to end the season and are district champions for the fifth consecutive year.
Sigourney-Keota will start the post season next week when they host West Branch to start the playoffs this Friday night.
