While their two scheduled matches for last week were both postponed due to saturated field conditions, the Sigourney-Keota varsity soccer team played their first two regular season

matches the previous week.

On March 26 the SK team traveled to Prairie City Monroe (PCM) for their season opener in 30- degree temperatures and 35 mph winds making it feel like 20 degrees. SK just could not develop their attacking game and fell 3-0 to PCM. PCM had 21 shots on goal and SK’s sophomore goalkeeper, Wells Clark, saved all but 3 of them.

Then on March 28, SK hopped on the bus and headed to Wapello’s home stadium where SK claimed their first win with a 3-2 score. Chase Haifley scored SK's first goal on a pass from Reanah Utterback. Jackson Vittitoe hit the back of the net for his goal this season on an assist from Chase Haifley. Just 15-minutes later Gavin Khali played a pass to Vittetoe who then scored his second goal of the game. SK’s starting goalie, Wells Clark, denied all of Wapello’s shots on goal with 18 saves before he was replaced in the goal to then play on the field. Wapello was able to sneak two goals into SK’s net towards the end of the match.

SK looks forward to their first two home games this week. Tuesday April 9 at 5:00 pm SK will take on Hillcrest Academy and Friday April 12 Highland will be SK’s opponent at 5:00 in the

stadium at Sigourney Jr/Sr High School.
