SIGOURNEY – Sigourney Mercantile, an occasional shop located at 106 East Washington on the north side of the Sigourney square, held a ribbon cutting on its opening day, Sept. 21. Owners Eric and Jessica Webb sell honey grown from their own hives, beeswax products (including lip balm, spoon butter and furniture wax), refinished furniture, and decor.

“We’ve owned the building for a little while and just decided, after trying to find someone to fill the space unsuccessfully, to go ahead and just take the bull by the horns and do it ourselves,” said Jessica Webb.

The store will be opened on select weekends and during events like Ladies Night and Rural Road Trip. The store’s schedule will be posted on its Facebook page, Sigourney Mercantile.

“It’s been a lot to get it started, but I think that we will hopefully be able to provide something unique to the square and something beautiful for all different people to be able to enjoy and hopefully bring people to town,” said Jessica Webb. “The furniture following is large and expansive, so there’s generally people who come from different areas to buy furniture if it’s a style that fits their home. So I’m hoping that can help bring business to the square, and maybe they’ll stop for lunch at Grant Ranch or Toby’s or whatever.”
