SIGOURNEY – During the July 15 meeting of the Keokuk County Board of Supervisors, the board decided against reinstating the county compensation board. In the past, Iowa counties were required to have compensation boards, containing representatives of different departments, to make recommendations on elected official pay. However, this year’s statewide omnibus bill disbanded all compensation boards, with counties given the option to reinstate them if they wish. At the Monday meeting, County Attorney Amber Thompson told the supervisors they would now be required to “show their work” and provide justifications for next year’s raises.
