SIGOURNEY – During the Oct. 28 meeting of the Keokuk County Board of Supervisors, County Engineer Andy McGuire said the Richland fire department had recommended the highway department put up an electronic speed sign near the railway crossing. Currently, there are already speed bumps and a sign warning about the speed bumps at the crossing. McGuire stated that he had reached out to the DOT, who were not aware of any railway crossing with both a speed sign and a speed bump sign. McGuire stated he was not sure what speed was appropriate for the crossing and was concerned about liability if they put up a sign. He discussed putting up a sign telling drivers to slow down a bit farther back.
