SIGOURNEY – The Sigourney National Honor Society held a “Pennies for Patients” event to raise funds for the VA Central Iowa Healthcare System. Collection buckets were placed in the High School lobby, containing the names of staff members and winter sport teams, with the “winners” receiving a pie to the face. The NHS managed to raise $320.28 for the Veterans Hospital.

High School science teacher Nate Kelly won for the staff, beating out Junior High Social Studies teacher and Athletic Director Lee Crawford, High School Social Studies teacher Alex Holt, High School Science teacher Kalynn Martinez and Junior High/High School Principal Shannon Webb. Kelly was pied by student Ava Finearn.

The boys’ basketball coaches were set to win for the sports teams, until Basketball Coach Mitch Eslick made a last minute donation to the wrestling bucket, putting the wrestling coaches in first place, above both sets of basketball coaches, the bowling coaches and the cheer coaches. Coach Cory VanDenHeuvel was pied by wrestler Jake Moore, Coach Bronson McCulley was pied by wrestler Carter Wyatt, and Coach Trevor Weeks was pied by State Champion Wrestler Reanah Utterback.
