OTTUMWA - Their first meet back sure was a busy one.

The Sigourney-Keota wrestlers had a longer than normal winter hibernation as they hadn’t been on the competitive mats since the week of Dec. 16.

That long rest didn’t seem to slow Sigourney-Keota down as they took on the challenging two-day tournament at Ottumwa this past weekend.

Leading the way for the Cobras was Jauden Thompson who would finish fourth overall in the 190-pound bracket.

During the round robin portion of the tournament Thompson went undefeated. He first pinned a Kirksville opponent, before pinning his teammate, Aidyn Parker in the first period of the second round match.

In the third round Thompson won in 41 seconds over a Davis County wrestler. He then won his fourth round match with a 4-0 decision.

In the fifth round Thompson won via a tech fall over a Moravia opponent.

In the actual tournament Thompson started off his tournament with a third period pin over a Fairfield opponent.

Thompson’s quest for a championship came to an end in the semifinals when a North Scott wrestler pinned him in the first period. In the third place match Thompson was pinned late in the first period to finish fourth overall.

Jacob Libe placed seventh in the 150-pound bracket. Libe won three of his four round robin matches, three by pin and one by tech fall.

Libe came up short in his first two bracket matches. Libe then won the seventh place match with an 11-5 win over a Newton opponent.

Owen Menke placed seventh in the 285-pound bracket. Menke would go 3-1 in the round robin portion of the tournament.

In the bracket Menke came up short in two decisions. In the seventh place match Menke needed just 3:21 to pin his opponent and finish seventh overall.

Dillon Menke placed 10th overall in the 144-pound bracket. Menke won three of his five round robin matches, one by pin and two by decisions. Menke won two of his consolation bracket matches before being pinned in the ninth place match.

Also finishing 10th overall was Ashton Schwab in the 165-pound bracket. Schwab won two of his four round robin matches. He then won his first two consolation matches, first by a first period pin followed by a third period pin. In the ninth place match Schwab was pinned in the first period.

In the 215-pound bracket Zach Guffey finished 10th. Guffey started off his bracket matches with back-to-back wins. In the ninth place match Guffey was defeated by tech fall 17-2  in the second period.

Brycen Horras would place 12th in the 126-pound bracket. Horras won two of his five round robin matches, both of them were by first period pins. In his tournament bracket Horras started off with a first period pin, but he would come up short on a tech fall and then was pinned in 2:51 in the 11th place match.

Dawson Meyer placed 14th in the 138-pound bracket. Kaen Kopp finished 1th in the 175-pound bracket.

In the 113-pound bracket Paxton Wehr placed 15th overall. Dylan Weber was 19th overall in the 144-pound bracket.
