Three Pekin wrestlers win brackets at BGM tournament

Pekin started the new year off with plenty of hardware at the first meet of the new year.

On Jan. 4 the Panther girls wrestling team traveled to BGM for their wrestling tournament. The Panthers had three girls that placed won their bracket. 

Lexa Nelson won the 105-pound bracket with three wins. She started off her tournament with a pin in 31 seconds. Her next round featured a win by tech fall 17-2 in the second period. She captured the championship by pinning her third opponent in the first period. 

Lila Miller won the 135-pound bracket with three wins, all by pins. 

Miller needed just 32 seconds to pin her first opponent. In the semifinals Miller pinned her opponent in 1:35. 

In the championship Miller would pin her South Tama opponent in 67 seconds. 

Hailey Pedrick also won her bracket, wrestling at the 140-pound bracket.

Pedrick started off her day with a win in 37 seconds in the first round. In the semifinals Pedrick needed 3:58 to secure a win by pin. 

The day for Pedrick ended with her pinning a South Tama opponent in 1:01. 

Rylee Frye placed third in the 235-pound weight class. 

Frye picked up two wins. She pinned a Baxter opponent in 26 seconds. She also pinned a Lone Tree opponent in 56 seconds. 

Reece Brisby would finish fourth in the 125-pound bracket. She won her first round match by a pin in 35 seconds. After being pinned in the semifinals she would pin her consolation semifinal opponent in 1:42. She was pinned in the third place match. 

Ella Rose also placed fourth overall. She was defeated in the first round, but won her second round match with a pin in 4:42. 

Bree Earnest placed fifth in the 120-pound bracket. Earnest won the fifth place match with a second period pin.
