Tri-County wrestlers place sixth at Highland meet
HIGHLAND – Both of the wrestlers proved how tough they were this weekend.
Tri-County brought their two wrestlers to the Highland girls wrestling tournament on Friday night. Both of the wrestlers were able to come away with sixth place finishes.
Gracen MacCready placed sixth wrestling in the 100-pound weight division.
MacCready’s day didn’t start off well as she was pinned in the first period of her first match. She would recover by needing just 36 seconds to pin a Van Buren County opponent in the consolation bracket.
In the consolation semifinals MacCready was able to pin a West Liberty opponent in 1:10 to earn a spot in the fifth place match.
In the fifth place match MacCready was pinned in the first period by an English Valleys opponent.
Layla Shilling wrestled in the 140-pound division. She also finished sixth overall.
Shilling started her meet with a win over an Iowa City Liberty opponent by medical forfeit.
In the quarterfinals Shilling was pinned in the first period by a Fort Madison wrestler. Shilling rebounded with a first period pin in the consolation bracket over an English Valleys wrestler.
In the consolation semi-finals Shilling was able to pin her Lone Tree opponent in 1:01.
In the fifth place match Shilling battled a Mid-Prairie opponent, but was pinned in 1:36 to take home sixth place overall.
