Maci Gambell makes an impression after freshman season
After graduating from Pekin last year, Maci Gambell traded in her jersey as part of the “Black Machine” to don the red and white of the Central Dutch women’s basketball team. She racked up over 500 minutes of action this season and coach Joe Steinkamp is impressed with what he’s seen so far.
One of those instances came at the tail end of the season when Central was on the road at Simpson mid-February. Gambell finished six of nine from the field, including four of six from behind the arc and five of six from the charity stripe. It all added up to 21 points, the most she’d scored in a single game on the season. The game before that, she ended up with 17 points when Central hosted Luther.
In total, Gambell scored double-digits in eight games and came close several other times. She closed out the year with a 36 percent success rate from the field, 32 percent from behind the arc and 66 percent from the free throw line.
