Weekly meeting Keokuk County Supervisors.

SIGOURNEY—The Keokuk County Board of Supervisors met in regular session on Monday morning at 8:30am. Chairman Hadley opened the meeting, and after the formalities, the first item was the discussion of possible decision on proposed resolution authorizing the county to engage legal services to join other counties in ongoing litigation against prescription opioid distributors and manufacturers. A motion was made to authorize County Attorney Amber Thompson to proceed by Daryl Wood, seconded by Fred Snakenberg, and passed unanimously. 

The next item was a meeting with the highway department. The head of the department informed the county board that he had received the grant paperwork for the Diesel Emission Reduction Act that was received for the replacement of a county dump truck. The major part of the paperwork is documented proof of the demolition of the old dump truck.

Engineer Andrew McGuire also spoke of the USDA Rural Business Development grants that he and Transportation director of Area 15 Regional Planning Committee, Chris Kukla, have discussed about 200th Street from 149 east, going 300 feet to help access to Keokuk Hills Beef. Mr. McGuire said that he should have the resolution for support of said grant next week. He is looking for five other companies that do business with Keokuk Hills to come on board for the grant application.

Mr. McGuire also reported that the graters were out on the gravel roads this weekend along with the snow plows to help with the snow on Saturday night.

There was also a discussion about the way to advertise open positions at the Highway Department.

The next item on the agenda was the review of quarterly report of fees collected by the County Auditor and Sheriff and the monthly report of fees collected by the County Recorder and Clerk of Court. The fees were reviewed and signed.

Possible approval of resolution regarding county magistrate appointing commission was the next item on the schedule. The commission was made aware that three new people were added; Dixie Shipley, John Schroeder and Allen Glandon. Motion was accepted.
