SIGOURNEY - Richard “Dick” Warner Dean, 80, of Sigourney, died at 9:32 p.m. August 5, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born December 4, 1941 in Packwood to Carl and Fern Sable Dean. A graduate of Packwood High School, Dick joined the Army in 1959 and served until 1963, mostly in Germany. After returning home from the service, he was an over the road truck driver and later worked as a paramedic for the Keokuk County Ambulance Service for almost 30 years, retiring in 2007. Dick was involved in the Patriot Guard Riders and enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Surviving are his three sons, Charles “Chuck” (Mona) Dean of Ottumwa, Bryan (Kim) Dean of Lakehills, TX, and Michael Dean (Deb Slider) of Holtwood, PA; 5 grandchildren; a brother, Dennis (Karan) Dean of Cambridge, IL; two sisters, Barbara (Kermit) Fulton of Ft. Madison, and Jackie Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Jerry Dean and Joe Dean.

Visitation will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, August 11 at Reece Funeral Home. Military honors will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O. B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. For those unable to attend, you may view the service live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. His family will be present to greet friends following the military services until 6 p.m. Thursday. Cremation will follow the visitation. Private inurnment will be in Brooks Cemetery near Hedrick.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Patriot Guard Riders.
