SOUTH ENGLISH – During the May 14 meeting of the South English City Council, the council discussed a $44,922 bid from LL Pelling Co. to repair damaged streets across town. However, there is only $18,000 in the town’s Road Use Fund. The council discussed possibly only doing the worst streets, which would cost $11,000. Councilman Nick Frazier stated that the road problems would become worse if ignored and cost more in the long term. City Clerk Alexia Van Dyke brought up using money from the Loss Fund, which contains money from the county which will be reassessed as not needed if the city doesn’t use it. The council approved using money from the Loss Fund and Road Use Fund to repair all of the streets in town.

The council again discussed establishing a library board. Currently, there are two people willing to come back to the board. The city still needs to find three people willing to sit on the board, one of whom must be from out of town. Councilwoman Hope Frazier suggested adding a flier about the library board openings to water bills.
