KEOKUK COUNTY – The deadline for candidate filing, Sept. 3, has passed, giving the people of Keokuk County a clear look at two contentious upcoming county elections. The open seat on the Keokuk County Board of Supervisors will be a three-way race between Republican nominee and secondary roads employee from Sigourney Kevin Weber, Democratic nominee and retiree from Webster Dennis Boone, and independent from Ollie Rob Wonderlich. Current supervisor Fred Snakenberg lost a close, four-way Republican primary to Weber back in June.

In the race for Keokuk County Sheriff, longtime incumbent and Republican candidate Casey Hinnah is once again facing off against Deputy Adam Clark. Clark lost the Republican nomination to Hinnah, 420 votes to 603, back in June, and has since switched his party affiliation to Libertarian.

The seat of County Auditor, three County Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner seats, four County Agricultural Extension Council Member seats, two Hospital Trustee seats, and numerous township trustee seats are all unopposed races.

Helena Hayes, the incumbent Republican representative for the Iowa House for District 88, which contains all of Keokuk County, is running unopposed. Adrian Dickey, incumbent Republican senator for Iowa Senate District 44, is facing a challenge from independent challenger Lisa Ossian. Ossian previously ran against Hayes, as a Democrat, in 2022. At the federal level, incumbent Republican Congresswoman for Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, Mariannette Miller-Meeks, is facing a rematch from Democratic challenger Christina Bohannan.
