Marilyn Jean Schroeder, 86

SIGOURNEY-Marilyn Jean Schroeder, age 86, of Sigourney, died Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

Marilyn was born September 17, 1938, in Fairfield, to Chester and Dorothy (Kenning) Davis and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1956.  On June 15, 1958, she married Larry Schroeder at the Lancaster Christian Church.  She was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church.  Marilyn enjoyed walking, crocheting, working puzzles, collecting Barbie dolls, attending her grandchildren’s sporting activities, volunteering at Sigourney Care Center, playing Bingo and traveling with her husband to Florida for the Daytona races for 42 years.  Marilyn babysat for many families while raising her family.  She was employed at Dick’s Corner, Benners Grocery, Sox and Sideburns, then helped build their business, Larry’s Alignment, in 1978, where she worked with her husband as bookkeeper and gopher.  They retired in 2008 and sold the business to their son, Randy and his wife Jody.

Survivors include two sons: Randy (Jody) Schroeder of Montezuma and Terry (Missy) Schroeder of Sigourney; four grandchildren: Andrew (Lexi) Schroeder, Ashley (Zach) Schroeder, Brooke (Drew) and Ally Schroeder; three great grandchildren: Reagan, Ryann and Raxton and sister: Helen (Lyle) Dumont of Sigourney.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Larry in August 2024; son: Bruce Allen Schroeder in May 1979; six brothers: Kenny in infancy, Robert, Harold, Harry Lee, Don and Wayne (Pappy) Davis and one sister: Mary Neis.



Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, with Pastor Vince Homan officiating.  Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024, at the funeral home.
