South English Council Discusses Need to Fill Empty Seat
SOUTH ENGLISH – During the Dec. 10 meeting of the South English City Council, the council discussed the upcoming vacancy that will be left when Councilman Steven Bruhn resigns at the start of the year. Councilman Cameron Miller stated he didn’t want to have an election and that the city would have sixty days to fill the open seat. Mayor Ed Shafranek stated that Bruhn was the first person to give him advanced notice before resigning and stated he would speak with the County Auditor’s Office about if that changes things.
Shafranek mentioned there was a large difference between the amount of water the city bought and the amount sold to residents, meaning there is likely a leak somewhere, or possibly several small leaks. The council approved sending out letters to law offices in the area, explaining the duties a city attorney has and asking if they would be interested in the job. The council approved selling the city’s old printer and donating it if no one buys it. The council approved spending $249 to purchase four heavy-duty shelves for storage at city hall, with a $45 discount. The council approved selling a pile of rock that was originally planned to be used for roads, because the pile of rock will soon freeze. City Clerk Stephanie Lown stated that, in the future, the council will need itemized quotes for bids, listing out needed materials. Bruhn suggested sending out a newsletter alongside water bills that lists news and city ordinances.
Upcoming city council meetings will be held at City Hall, rather than at the fire station.
