Second half scoring effort not enough for Savages to best Hawks
LYNNVILLE – Going into halftime the Savages knew they had a lot of work to do.
Coming out of halftime they weren’t afraid to put in that work. Although the Savages were able to more than quadruple their scoring effort from the first half, it wasn’t quite enough to overcome the deficit.
Lynnville-Sully held on, just barely, for the 56-54 victory on Friday night, despite the scoring effort that the Savages displayed against the No. 13-ranked Hawks.
The holiday break seemed to extend a little too long for Sigourney as they entered Friday’s game being overwhelmed by Lynnville-Sully in the first half.
The Savages were only able to score 13 total points. Of those 13 points eight of the points came in the second half.
For Lynnville-Sully there was no shortage of points in the first 16 minutes.
The Hawks were able to finish the first half with a total of 32 points, as they seemed to have the momentum of a 19-point lead going into the second half.
Things started to get flipped on its head in the third quarter as Sigourney came out and scored 19 points to chip away at the Lynnville-Sully lead. The Savages were able to outscore the Hawks by four points in the third quarter.
In the final quarter the Savages were able to pour on the offense as they would finish with 22 total points.
Not only did the Savages have plenty of offense, but their cutthroat defense returned as the Savages were able to limit the Hawks to just nine total points.
Although the Savages were able to drastically cut into the lead, the Hawks held onto the narrow victory.
Leading the effort for the Savages was Josephine Moore who scored 30 points. Additionally, she added 14 rebounds with one steal and a block. Brynn Clarahan would score 11 points in the game.
McKinley Chittick was able to finish with seven points. Addy Fineran scored three points. Bailey Gretter added two points and Ava Fisch would add one point.
The Savages stand at 5-3 overall this season. They started their week with a game on Tuesday against undefeated and No. 2 ranked North Mahaska (8-0). Friday night they host BGM (3-5) and then Saturday they host Pekin (4-4).
