Keota girls pick up pair of wins to finish week
KEOTA – In some ways the first game of the week slipped away. They made sure to not let that happen again.
On Jan. 7 the Keota girls were hampered by turnovers and missed shots as they fell to HLV 46-31. The Eagles would learn the lessons from that game and go on to win their next two.
Friday night the Eagles were in another tight battle as they took on Colfax-Mingo in a conference game.
The Eagles and Tigerhawks were tied at 13 after the first quarter, but Colfax-Mingo used the home crowd momentum to take a five point lead at halftime.
In the third quarter the Eagles made a comeback, but trailed 34-33 at the end of the quarter.
Throughout the final quarter the lead changed hands numerous times, but Keota was able to grab the lead late, and hang onto it, eventually winning 43-41.
Kennedy Jackson and Cameron Haifley both finished with 10 points each in the win. Kimberly Clarahan scored nine points. Emily Conger added five points while Ava Greiner added four points.
Karley Greiner finished with three points and Grace Conger added two points.
On Jan. 11 the Eagles kept the momentum from their Friday win with another road win, besting Hillcrest Academy 55-51 on the road.
Once again, the Eagles trailed at half. Even at the end of the third quarter the Eagles were down six to the Ravens.
Then came the fourth quarter when the Eagles poured 20 points on the scoreboard to eventually gain a four point victory, and their second-straight win.
Grace Conger led the scoring with 12 points. Kimberly Clarahan finished with nine points. Both Cameron Haifley and Kennedy Jackson scored eight points in the win.
Elyse Lyle also scored eight points. Karley Greiner finished with six points. Ava Greiner scored four points in the win.
The Eagles are 4-8 overall on the season. They have four games scheduled this week.
