Pekin girls down Moravia, Centerville in dual, earn podiums at Highland tournament Panther boys fall in Monday quad, have two place finishers at North Mahaska

MORAVIA - A busy week of wrestling started off on the right foot for the Pekin girls. 

On Monday, Jan. 6 the Pekin girls wrestling team traveled to Moravia for two duals. First they took on Centerville winning that match 42-6.

There was only one head-to-head match in that dual meet. Ava Allen of Centerville pinned Bree Earnest late in the second period. 

Lexa Nelson (105); Reece Brisby (125); Ivory Small (130); Lila Miller (135); Hailey Pedrick (140); Ella Rose (145) and Rylee Frye (235) all won by forfeit. 

In the dual with Moravia the Panthers won 36-12. 

Small was able to pin her 130-pound opponent in 3:31. Pedrick won her 140-pound match with a pin in 2:27. 

Nelson (105); Earnest (120); Miller (135) and Frye (235) all won by forfeit. 

At the Highland tournament on Friday the Panters would have four place winners.

Lexa Nelson was able to win her  105-pound bracket with three first period pins. That moves her to 19-3 overall on the season. 

Pedrick would finish second in the tournament. She pinned her first two opponents in less than a minute, and needed just 65 seconds to pin a Burlington opponent in the semifinals.

Lila Miller was able to finish fourth. Miller won her first round, but was pinned in the semifinals. She withdrew from the tournament because of a medical forfeit for the third place match. 

Also finishing fourth was 235-pound wrestler Rylee Frye. Frye received a bye in her first round, but was pinned by a Burlington wrestler in the semifinals. 

On the boys side of things the Panthers also wrestled at Moravia on Jan. 6. 

They started off their meet with a match against Cardinal, falling 47-18 in that meet. Landon Crow and Henry Adam both won their matches by first period pins. Gabe Gentry won his 106-pound match via a forfeit. 

Against Davis County the Panthers fell 54-18. 

Crow started the Panther wins with a 157-pound match win, pinning his opponent in 1:27. Henry Adam won his 165-pound match with a first period pin as well. Brantyn Sieren would win his match via forfeit. 

Against Moravia the Panthers fell 60-18. 

Adam moved to 3-0 on the night, pinning his opponent in 50 seconds. 

Zachary Doud would need just 26 seconds to win his 138-pound match with a pin. 

Cael Silvers won by forfeit. 

At the North Mahaska tournament on Saturday the Panthers would have two place winners.

Landon Crow wrestled in the 157-pound bracket and won his first match with a pin in 1:22. He then needed just 40 seconds to win his second round match. 

After falling in back-to-back matches on the consolation bracket, Crow won the fifth place match with a first period pin. 

At 285-pounds Jonnah Breon would place sixth overall. Breon was pinned in his first match, but then needed 2:26 to win his first consolation match. 

In the next two matches Breon would be pinned in the first period.
