Abell and Weber make Second Team All-SICL / Hemsley and Hornback named Honorable Mention All-SICL / Morse named to Academic All-State Team

Much like last week’s Coach’s Corner, this week’s roundup of Sigourney’s 2020 volleyball season features Coach Carter sharing her thoughts on the five Savage volleyballers that received honors.

On senior Joselyn Abell: Abell has been a solid performer for us the past 2 years. This year Joselynn led us in both kills  (121) and ace serves (31 aces and serving 92% on the year)  She also was 2nd on our team for digs with134.  Joselyn was the only player that played a full rotation, and was the most consistent player for us all season. Joselyn was also a team captain both her Junior and her Senior years.  

On senior Kaylee Weber: Kaylee has improved a lot as a player over the years.  This season she was 2nd on the team in kills with 120, and led us in blocks with 26, and also led the team in serving % with 94.9%.  She was a dominant force at the net with a powerful attack this season.  Kaylee was also a team captain this year. 

On junior Madelynn Hornback: Madelynn has been our libero for the past 2 seasons, leading us in digs with 236, was 2nd on the team in aces with 25, and served at 87%.  Madelynn was one of our most consistent and aggressive servers.  She also improved a lot this season in terms of going after the ball and taking charge of our defense.  She is a strong leader and had some great digs against some of the top hitters in our conference.  

On sophomore Brookelyn Hemsley: Hemsley led us in assists with 186, and was 2nd on the team in serving % with 93%. This is her 2nd year as a setter on Varsity .  She really grew as a setter and a leader of our offense this year.  She improved her overall knowledge of the game of volleyball to help us to get competitive this season.   Brookelyn has a  competitive spirit, and  quickness, which helps her to be a good setter.   

On senior Sidney Morse (who has a cumulative GPA of 3.85 or higher): Morse has been a setter on our team for the past 2 years.  This season she was one of our top servers, serving 89%, and aso 3rd on the team in ace serves with 21 aces.  She was a team captain, who was willing to play whatever position we needed her to in order for the team to be successful.   She has a strong work ethic in the classroom and positive attitude in everything she does.
