Bears girls win state qualifying meet Heyne wins boys meet, Frazier also qualifies

IOWA CITY – There wasn’t much that seemed to slow them down.

Thursday afternoon the North English cross country team brought more than a little speed to the Iowa City course. 

Both of the state qualifier racers were won by a North English runner as Anna Luers was able to turn in the fastest time in the girls race. 

Likewise, the boys race was won by English Valleys senior runner Gage Heyne. 

Not only were the Bears able to win both races, but the girls team had the lowest score of the meet, and were able to qualify their entire team.  

Overall the Bears girls scored a total of 28 points to qualify their whole team. In fact, their five top runners all finished in the top-11. Danville finished second with 75 total points. 

Luers had a time of 20:39.7 to win the race. Addison Achenbach finished fourth overall with a time of 21:36. Kaylynn Caster was eighth overall with a time of 21:48.4. 

Kailor Lown finished 10th overall with a time of 21:57.3. In 11th was Aubrey Achenbach with a time of 22:03.4. Kaylee Frazier finished 20th with a time of 23:13.2. In 52nd was Emily Sieren with a time of 26:34.8.

In the boys race Heyne finished with a time of 16:46.4. He bested the second place finisher by 12 seconds. 

Also qualifying was Isaac Frazier who finished 10th with a time of 18:16.6. 

Other finishers for the Bears included Evan Koehn who finished 21st. Jack Osborne was 64th overall. Hunter Offerman had a run to finish 89th. 

The state cross country meet will take place Nov. 2 in Fort Dodge at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course. The girls race starts at 10:30 a.m. The boys race will start at 11:15 a.m.
