1923-2021

North English- Bessie Jean Hollingsworth was born June 5, 1923 in Hayesville the daughter of Henry F and Bessie (Chase) Wilkening. On Aug. 21, 1940 Bessie was united in marriage to Leonard Doyle “Johnnie” Hollingsworth in Lancaster, Mo. In 1942 they moved to the farm east of North English and farmed for 66 years. Bessie was a devoted farm wife and worked for Evans Photography. She was a member of the Union Busy Bees and a 4H Leader. She enjoyed taking care of people, canning, gardening, sewing and collecting obituaries. Bessie died on Friday, Nov. 19 at the English Valley Care Center in North English at the age of 98 years.

She is survived by her children Gary (Brenda) Hollinsworth of Coralville, Kathy (Sid) Moore of South English and Jayne (Joel) Love of Reinbeck; 10 grandchildren: Mark Hollingsworth of Los Angeles, Mandy Hollingsworth of Coralville, Matthew Hollingsworth of Centennial, Colo., Brad Moore of South English, Brent (Brooke) Moore of Atkins, Brian (Katie) Moore of Altoona, Brock (Danielle) Moore of Kalona, B.J. (Erica) Love of Houston, Texas, Jonathan (Jessie) Love of Reinbeck and Geoffrey (Morgan) Love of Waukee; 13 great grandchildren Shay (Bethany), Lexie and Clayton Moore, Grace and Jack Hollingsworth, Bailey Alderson, Brayden and Bowen Moore, Cody, Karsyn and Issac Moore and Ashton and Emmerson Moore; two great, great grandchildren Zion and Zephyr Moore; sister Belva Hollingsworth of Sigourney; sister-in-law Bernice Wilkening of Sigourney; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her parents, husband, siblings John Wilkening, Frances Leighton, Leslie Wilkening and Henrietta Green Vittetoe.

Celebration Of Life Service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021 at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Pennington Cemetery, near Sigourney. Memorials may be given to Essence of Life Hospice or the English Valley Care Center.
