1929-2020
Carl Ardith Martin, 91 of Delta passed away Oct. 1, 2020. H was born May 28, 1929, to William and Fannie Martin of Kinross. He was united in marriage to Maxine L. Crile on Dec. 24, 1951 in Rose Hill. Carl was a veteran serving with the United States Army from Aug. 27 1947 to Nov. 16, 1950 during the Korean Conflict. He worked several jobs over the years, owned the Delta Hardware Store, and most memorable was his work with plumbing, heating and cooling, electrical wiring throughout Keokuk County and surrounding areas. Carl took pride in helping others. He was an avid fast pitch softball center-fielder, still playing in the old tiemrs game at What Cheer. Carl loved hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, camping and playing cards. He was proud to be a part of the American Legion, attending Veterans of Foreign War meetings, and working at Veterans Affairs of Keokuk County helping Veterans. Above all hes family was most important to him.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Debbie; seven brothers, Leroy, Charles, Williams, Loren, Warren, Calvin and Robert Martin; a sister, Helen Blood; and some nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Maxine Martin; children, C. Randy (Susan) Martin of Grinnell, Jody (Delos) Steward of Marshalltown, Christie (Don) Sellers and Barb (Jeff) Club of Sigourney; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; Michelle (Dave Haswell) Jakubiak, Mason and Halaina of Hendersonville, Tenn., Robin (Bryan) Llewellyn, Lillian, Hazel and Ryder of Otley, Iowa, Ryan Martin of Pella, Shannon (Dr. Jared) Stanton, Ava, Mya, and Savannah of Loma Linda, Mo., Ashley VerSteeg, Kiley VerSteeg and Olivia of Marshalltown, Adam Sellers, Aaron (Missy) Sellers, Hunter and Nile, and Greg Sellers, all of Sigourney, Jenn (Bryan) Beal and Clay of Ankeny. Carl also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was help Sat. Oct. 10 at the Todd Hazen Memorial ball field in What Cheer with Military Honors. Private burial at White Oak Grove Cemetery will be held at a later time.
