Charles Scearcy

1935-2022

Charles Marshall Scearcy, 87, formerly of Ollie, died Saturday morning Feb. 26, 2022, at Parkview Home in Wayland.  He was born in Ollie on Jan. 4, 1935, the son of Cecil and Viola Mildred Smithart Scearcy.  Charles grew up in Ollie and graduated from Ollie High School.  He married Erma Lou Pollock in Ollie on Jan. 22, 1958.  Charles was employed at Wausau Homes and Hormel in Ottumwa.  He loved to mow yards in the community and delivered the Sunday Des Moines Register for 40 years with his wife.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching parades, riding his motorcycle, fishing, the wildlife, and reading.  Charles was a man of very few words. 

Charles is survived by his wife, Erma of Wayland, his children:  Barbara Liles (Randy) of Packwood, Bob Scearcy of Ollie, Susan Schwerin of Kalona, Deborah Bellmer (Bob) of Ainsworth, JoAnn Scearcy-Robe (Mark) of Kalona, 10 grandchildren 17 great grandchildren and one sister, Mary Michael of Eaton, OH.  He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant child, his granddaughter Shannon Swindler and grandson Jeremy Robe, son-in-law George Rozenboom and sister Karole Hintermeister.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:30a.m.. Thursday March 3,, at Rock Creek Cemetery near Ollie with Pastor Ryan Dexter officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10 to 11a.m. at Gould Funeral Home in Richland immediately before the graveside service.  A general memorial has been established and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 3143 190th Street, Ainsworth, Iowa-52201.  Gould Funeral Home of Richland is in charge of arrangements.
