Cobras pick up two dual wins at BGM
BROOKLYN, IA. – Overall it was a week full of success for the team.
Sigourney-Keota wrestled at the BGM quad on Thursday. At that meet the Cobras were able to pick up two wins.
Their first win came over Lynnville-Sully as Sigourney-Keota won 54-18.
Dawson Meyer started off the wins for the Cobras in the 138-pound division where he was able to pin his opponent in 4:42.
Ashton Schwab also won by pin. The 165-pound wrestler needed just 45 seconds to earn the pin. Ayden Parker won the 190-pound match with a pin in 1:51.
In the heavyweight match Owen Menke won with a pin in 2:39.
Sigourney-Keota also picked up wins by forfeit from: Dillion Menke (144); Brady Clark (150); Jacob Libe (157); Kaen Kopp (175) and Zach Guffey (215).
Against BGM the Cobras were able to win 49-23.
Gavin Khali started off the wins for S-K as he won the 132-pound match with a 12-6 decision. Libe was able to win a major decision match with a 16-8 victory in the 157-pound match.
Ashton Schwab won via a pin in 2:58 in the 165-pound match. Kaen Kopp was able to pin his 175-pound opponent in 2:24.
Winning by forfeit were: Dawson Miller (138); Dillion Menke (144); Ayden Parker (190); Owen Menke (285) and Brycen Horras (126).
The SK team also wrestled Southeast Polk, but were defeated 63-10.
Dillion Menke was able to win the 144-pound match with a 16-4 major decision.
Owen Menke won the heavyweight match with a pin in 2:51.
The SK wrestlers returned to action on Saturday, Jan. 18 when they wrestled at the Hudson Invite.
There the team was led by Brady Clark who finished second overall in the 150-pound division.
Clark won his quarterfinal match with a first period pin. In the semifinals he was able to gain a major decision 12-4 win.
After a lengthy battle with a North Feyette Valley wrestler, Clark was pinned late in the third period of the championship match.
Jacob Libe was one of many SK wrestlers to finish third. The 157-pound wrestler was able to recover from a first round pin, before winning his next two matches by first period pins.
In the third place match Libe was able to get revenge over his first round opponent with a pin in 3:06.
Ashton Schwab was third in the 165-pound division. After being pinned in the quarterfinal round, Schwab won his consolation semifinal match with a third period pin. He then won a major decision 14-0 match in the third place match.
Owen Menke was third in the heavyweight division. Menke started off with a quick 39 second pin over his first opponent.
In the semifinals Menke came up short in a 7-2 decision.
Menke would need just 94 seconds to win his next two matches and finish third overall.
Zach Guffey was fourth in the 215-pound division. After a semifinal defeat by tech fall to a Don Bosco opponent, Guffey was able to win his consolation semifinal match with a major decision win. Guffey was then just short in the third place match with a 4-2 decision loss against a Hudson opponent.
Dillion Menke was fourth overall in the 144-pound division. Menke recovered from being pinned in the quarterfinals. Menke would win his next two matches by a pin and a tech fall. In the third place match he was pinned in the first period.
Dawson Meyer was sixth overall in the 138-pound division. Meyer battled in all three of his matches, but finished 0-3 in the tournament.
Jayden Thompson was sixth in the 190-pound division. Thompson won his first round match by pin, and then was pinned in the quarterfinals. In the first round of consolation matches Thompson pinned a Hudson opponent in 2:48. He then finished the day by being pinned.
